Temp: 50° when we left for Wichita

Up early.  Grimes called me about some feeders (told him to call back at Ralph’s at 9:45).  Forgot it was “Color Day”.  Got up to Ralph’s about 10.  He wanted to ride back with me to pick up Town Car I’d brought from Dodge City.  A customer caught him just as we were leaving.  Took 10 to 15 minutes.  Stopped & got a few groceries.  Stopped at apartment & got his radio-phone.  He contacted Joe Hermann as he was going into Dodge City.  Home by 11:11.  Bill was walking the floor.  Hurriedly threw some things in suitcase.  On the road by 11:50.  Stopped at drive-in  in Stafford for a sandwich.  At airport about 2pm.  Flight left at 3:35.  Had seat 11 (room for Bill’s legs).  Arrived in Phoenix at 5:05 their time.  Tried to rent a car, missed my drivers license.  Got brand new Tempo.  Got lost once getting to Carrie’s.  She had steak supper on the table.

Wasn’t so cold, but windy.  Bill woke me up to ask the time a little after 5 – never did go back to sleep.  Chato didn’t go  to work very early – kinda staggered around (got in sometime after 12:30).  I fixed bacon, poached egg, toast, grapefruit & coffee.  Called Jeannie – she seemed in a better mood.  We missed getting to be with them.  Rod Spreier stopped by – Bill was going after gas & said I was getting ready to go to Hays.  I fixed broccoli, cucumber & sour cream, took eggs, 2 bottles of wine & eggnog.  Left after 10 – Mexicans went back to bed, wouldn’t answer door.  I called Doska to shut down door to chicken house.  Drove slow, didn’t get to Hays til 11:45.  Had eggnog and shrimp, ate about 2:30.  Merlene gave me a cute birdhouse.  Ralph gave me perfume & us a clock for the living room.

Diarrhea.  Greg came & he & bill ate lunch, went to see cattle down south.  Slept a little.  Ralph called, told him I had the flu.  Greg & Bill came back – I still could hardly get out of bed.  He wanted me to see cattle at his place & out by Mos (350 head).  About ruined my back.  Bill at supper, I stayed in bed.

V.’s wedding.  Bill declined.  Ralph called.  I set out petunias and salvia.  Mary Helen picked me up, only 22 at wedding, but so pleased we came.  Mary Helen & I had a drink at Cedars, brought bill some cake.
